Writer. Rider. Roll forever-er. *

I live and work in one of the world’s most creative towns, Portland, OR, but sometimes you can find me staring into the forest at my field office in Bend.

Some things I like to do: Brand voice, campaign concepting & creation, creative & brand strategy, narrative script writing for video & radio, activation ideas, taglines & headlines, social copy, naming, manifestos, writing for digital ads & digital ecosystems, product copy, web copy, retail & packaging copy.

Chronological labyrinth of life experience.

Pro Snowboarder

I was cashing double (sometimes triple!) digit checks back when snowboarding was a teenager and I was, too. At the time, we thought for ourselves and had a high bullshit detector for people / brands not in it for the right reasons. Together as a community, we learned to grow the sport with anarchic care and a strong point of view.

Somewhere in there I graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of Colorado with a Humanities degree—but I went to the school of life, too.

Senior Editor, TransWorld Snowboarding Magazine

Running the world’s biggest snowboard mag with my peers, I shaped my ability to think of lots of creative ideas to light up our community and grow it too. Deadline-making and deadline-meeting are in every good journalist’s quiver and I got ’em. The day to day: adventure journalism and long-form thought leadership to ideating, editing, spicy captions, quirky quips and more. I built lots of beautiful brand relationships during this time, collab-ing to tell stories that would make our shared audience care and convert.

Freelance Creative Copy Writer, Worldwide

My powers in youth culture and building passion communities in the outdoors—taken beyond action sports to new categories in travel, sport and active lifestyle. In my nascent freelance era I typed for miles: product copy, social video scripts and captions, books and blogs and so much brand content, digital ads, manifestos and more. Learned a lot of stuff. Drank a lot of coffee. Won some awards.

Accounts: Teva, Columbia, Nike, Adidas, Salomon, Dakine and more.

Creative Director, Nemo Design

Success metric: I lead the team that launched Ikon Pass and helped build it into a billion-dollar brand. We disrupted the mountain industry, creating a force that’s known and respected. Results have delivered double-digit sales growth YOY and positioned Ikon Pass as a premier outdoor experience brand. Under inspiring mentorship, I’ve developed the belief that no wants to be sold to, they want to buy in and belong to something meaningful. That’s what gets results. The ideas, the writing, the creative leadership, the relationship building, the strategy and execution—I’m always trying to find a way to shape it toward that greater purpose.

Accounts: Ikon Pass. Chewy. Mattel. The North Face. Shimano. Toms. Mammoth. Blizzard. Nordica. New business.

Senior Copywriter, Nemo Design

Lauded active-lifestyle branding agency Nemo Design brought me in to power up their writing program. “Omni” means “everywhere,” and I took emotion-driven storytelling across the channels for markets both local and worldwide—scripts and treatments for broadcast TV, social, radio, web, OOH, print, bumper stickers, board games, seeding kits, tradeshow booths, I’m running out of room here. It’s always about bringing some smart strategy into some uniqueness and creativity.

Founder, Commonwealth Skatepark

When Portland, OR lost its beloved indoor skatepark, Dept. of Skateboarding, I compiled a cast of characters to create a new one grown from the PNW’s finest concrete. This meant building a brand / business from the ground up, with a heavy emphasis on authenticity and community. Youth programs, cultural events, a creative content program—we had ’em and did ’em. Let’s face it, I cleaned the toilets, too. Success metric: With momentum built, I sold the brand. Other success metric: It’s currently Portland’s longest-running public indoor skatepark.
