Lefty's Prayer
Visitor month continues. Tricia Byrnes of FeelTheByrnes fame is here staying in my basement. I took her to the Bye and Bye so we could drink strange elixirs on the front deck. Mine was called Lefty's Prayer—it was the color of blood and tasted like earth and a kind of deep golden sunlight. Afterwards, Langano Lounge to listen to records played by Peter Gunn. All I remember for sure from the repertoire was a Hall and Oats song. Lots of good people out and about in support "DJ Foreskin." Gross.
Lefty's Prayer: Beat-infused tequila, rosemary syrup, lime juice.
Spring Fever
A lovely few days with the family in town from Colorado. Nephew Patrick up at 7 a.m. everyday and shuffling around outside our bedroom door. Hours wandering around downtown and Alberta and Hawthorne with that softish sun breathing warmth down our backs. Big dinners, beer samplers, red wine and orange spritzer.
Noble Rot with my mommy.
A pair of larakeets at the zoo.
So Long Seattle
We took a field trip to Seattle last weekend and my feeling about the place is that it's absolutely just too cold. All that flat lovely water has a definite calming effect on your disposition, and yet, the air slices off it heavy with damp. As a rule, when it comes to outings away from Portland, I'm try'na get warmer here, not colder, ya know?
So nice to get out of town, though. Highlights were as follows: Mother's Day dinner on the Sound with Lance's mommy. Seeing Muzzy and Dresser, Blue, Brad, and many more old-time homeys at Street League. Watching heavy stunt skateboarding in person. Snacks at the Honey Hole with Ben and Jesse. A nice drive south towards home in the evening sunshine.
Nice Life
We went to the Humane Society the other day and there was a cat straight up passed out in his food bowl. Look at him—cashed!
It's hard to decide what's sadder at an animal shelter—the dogs or the cats. Cats are more mental—they lay around with grim, hardened expressions seemingly thinking something like, "I can't believe my life has been reduced to this, I'm so above this squalor and all the assholes who walk by gawking but don't take me home with them." However, the dogs peer up at you with eyes that are deep pools of sweet sadness and you feel bad for them because they probably don't know that they're never gonna get adopted.
Um, anyway, spay and neuter your pets, people! Okay, that's all.
